Steigenberger Nile Palace Luxor - Convention Center
What convinced us is the scale of the thing done properly: 304 rooms, a hammam...
Sonesta St. George Hotel - Convention Center sits on Luxor’s East Bank corniche, where the Nile runs past Karnak and Luxor Temple a short walk from the lobby. At 322 rooms, it is one of the larger properties on this stretch of river, built from the outset to serve two different kinds of guest at once: the delegate arriving for a conference in its meeting and banquet facilities, and the holidaymaker who wants a proper spa, sauna and pool day between temple visits. Few hotels in Luxor manage both convincingly; the Sonesta does, and the volume of reviews behind it says the balance holds up in practice.
A rating of 8.9 out of 10 across 1,038 reviews is the strongest review volume of any establishment we looked at this pass, and consistency at that scale is harder to manufacture than a handful of enthusiastic write-ups on a small guesthouse. The hotel is part of the Sonesta brand, a verifiable international chain with its own booking site rather than a locally assembled property, which gives a baseline of service standards that smaller independents cannot always promise. What distinguishes it from a standard business hotel is the spa and wellness centre, sauna, hot tub and fitness centre layered on top of the usual conference infrastructure.
The East Bank corniche puts guests among Luxor’s working city rather than its archaeological quiet: Luxor Temple and the souk are a short walk away, Karnak a short taxi ride, and the river itself is the view from much of the property. It is a more central, more amenity-dense base than the West Bank hotels across the water, trading a little of their rural calm for easy access to restaurants, transport and the convention facilities that bring much of the hotel’s business.

Convention hotels of this size often treat wellness as an afterthought, a single plunge pool bolted onto a building designed for meeting rooms. The Sonesta St. George keeps its spa and wellness centre, sauna and hot tub as a real part of the offer rather than a box ticked for the brochure, which matters for the guest who arrives for a conference and wants somewhere to unwind afterward, not just a gym with a treadmill bolted on as an afterthought.
The “Convention Center” in the hotel’s name is not marketing shorthand: meeting and banquet facilities, a business centre and fax and photocopying services point to a property that genuinely hosts events, something few hotels on either bank of the Nile are equipped to do at this scale. For Luxor, a city built almost entirely around leisure travel, that makes the Sonesta a rare address for anyone whose trip involves work as well as temples, and a useful anchor for group travel too.
At 322 rooms, this is not an intimate stay, and travellers who want the personal attention of a small guesthouse should look to the West Bank instead. What the Sonesta offers in exchange is consistency at scale: a full spa, a genuine pool, an East Bank corniche location within walking distance of Luxor Temple, and a review record, over a thousand strong, that very few properties in this pass could match.
